For RTCG Gardeners

· Adhere to the plot markers that are placed in each corner of each garden plot.  Don’t extend your garden past the plot markers or into designated pathways. Keep your fencing within the plot markers.

· Keep the pathways clear.  Keep fences and posts upright, and gates closed.  Do not leave hoses, tools, piled weeds, etc. in the pathways.  The park maintenance crew will not mow if the pathway is obstructed! Avoid dumping weeds in pathways between the gardens since this makes it diifcult for everyone to walk  Do not park your vehicle where it obstructs access by other vehicles.

· Be courteous in your use of the water supply.  Limit your watering time.  Do not leave running hoses or sprinklers unattended.  Disconnect your hose as soon as you are finished watering so other gardeners know the spigot is available.

· Control the weeds and pests! Keep in mind the close proximity of surrounding gardens when considering your methods of weed & pest control.  Make arrangements for plot maintenance by a friend if you will be away on vacation.

· Dump non-plant material in the appropriate garbage barrels.  Place heavy non-plant material next to, not in, the barrels.  Discard weeds in the center pathways near barrels. avoid allowing refuse piles to accumulate in your plot.

· Harvest your crops as soon as they have matured. This discourages “free-pickers” , 2– and 4-footed, from entering the gardens in search of ripe produce. It will also minimize waste and garden rot.

· Get to know your neighbors and keep an eye on the community garden.  Security of the garden plots from theft and vandalism is ultimately the responsibility of the gardeners.

Note:  The webmasters are not operating in any "official" capacity for the garden. Rather, we are a casual, "ad hoc" but enthusiastic group that holds (occasional...) off-season meetings, (intermittently...) maintains a website and mailing list, and (when we're feeling REALLY motivated...) helps coordinate events.  So be patient if you are trying to contact us…  We’re probably busy in the garden!

For "official" information about leasing a garden plot, contact the Delaware County Department of Parks and Recreation @ (610) 891-4663.

While RTCG plots are individually leased, each gardener is part of the community of gardeners, and needs to work in harmony with others to create a positive experience for everyone.

To promote this harmony, all gardeners are asked to abide by the following guidelines*:

* Modeled after Portland, OR’s Community Garden Etiquette Standards; rules of the Dowling Community Garden in Minneapolis, MN; rules of the Community Garden of the Municipality of Anchorage, AK; and guidelines suggested by the American Community Gardening Association.
